Is There Openbasketball Gyms In Ottawa Where

The Fall of the Giants - Ken Follet

Power enjoy fullness of a hobby is probably one of the most rewarding activities of daily life: a morning departure to the tranquility of the mountain, a nap on the couch during a cold winter afternoon, the victory of your team football to its eternal rival, the final pages of a gripping novel, a cycling tour around the town ... whatever, everyone will have theirs. What I mean is that having hobbies and enjoy is a pleasure. And it is more so when, with a little luck, we managed to get together more than one of these interests in one particular activity. In my case usually the case with historical novels (not all, of course, but good), I can enjoy the entertainment of the novels and to learn about a particular historical epoch. And in this case has been with "The Fall of the Giants" . As

know, this is the latest novel by Ken Follet and forming part of a planned trilogy "The Century" , by the famous Welsh writer narrate the major events of the twentieth century through a series of family sagas. This first volume takes place during the first quarter of a century and focuses on both becomings of the First World War and the Russian Revolution . Now, there must be clear that this is a historical novel and not a trial and, obviously, these events are so important and so much content, that Follett has no choice but to narrate much higher because , although the novel is extensive, it would be possible to deepen them and tell personal stories while condensing all in one volume. In any case, in my opinion the historical part of the novel is enough to recall some passages, facts and events and even to learn new ones. Moreover, in this sense has caught my attention and I found very original, historic fabric is told primarily from the standpoint of diplomacy and high-level relations between the countries and not from the perspective war. For

put a but, perhaps I would say I lacked a bit of identification with the characters and I do not know well why do not I have come to take all the love that on other occasions they were caught with novels of this magnitude. Anyway, to be fair I have to say it is a minimal hit, since the characters are well made and almost all have a very interesting evolution over the whole plot.

Ultimately, it is a novel comprehensive and highly recommended. And in my opinion, much better than his previous work: "World Without End" , the second part of seen "The Pillars of the Earth" .

going to excuse Mr. Minister, but for me that was not appropriate to suspend classes on Monday. If it had gone under the big storm on Friday ... and it rained on Monday, and today less.
The suspension was invalid for areas at risk and vulnerable, that is, here also had to 'focus' suspension.

How To Build Wood Side Rails

withdrawal from Dunkirk

In general, most of the war known historical events referred to battles (from Alesia to Normandy, through Hastings, Agincourt, Waterloo, etc.) or sieges of cities or countries (Malta sites, Cadiz, etc.) but, despite which, as Napoleon said: "one-time withdrawal is a victory" , rare is the time that these folds pass into history. One of these few cases could be to Dunkerque.

During the spring of 1940, in the middle of World War II, the Nazi offensive was at its peak. The advance of the Wehrmacht on the west side was becoming increasingly more powerful and faster thanks to the well-known Blitzkrieg tactics and much of the allied army was cornered near Dunkirk. Given this situation, senior allies began planning a mass evacuation of its troops in northern France . We had to get out of there and out before too low and increase the chances of winning the war would vanish altogether. Then the call was hatched Operation Dynamo, which would be evacuated by sea to all British and French troops as possible. The shipment would be made in the French town of Dunkerque, close to the Strait of Calais, and the fate that would be the nearby island of Great Britain.

Dunkerque (Note-Pas de Calais, France)

The troop withdrawal began on May 27, lasted for 9 days (until June 4) and at all times be conducted with harassment, both by land and by air, the German army was virtually at the gates of the city. Despite the poor conditions, the evacuation was a success, achieving except put the incredible figure of over 300,000 soldiers 200,000 British and 100,000 French and the allies to maintain their chances of winning the war.

curious thing about this episode is that Germany had in their hands have easily prevented this retreat will be held. In May of that year, the Wehrmacht remained unstoppable in their advance through Belgium and northern France, and wore down the allied troops until he had a point of annihilation. However, few days before the start of that evacuation, rather than opt to give the coup de grace, mysteriously stop Hitler ordered his troops advancing , which was used by British and French to gain time and eventually lead successfully withdrawn. Still unclear the reasons for the decision Führer (not wanting to humiliate the British in order to more easily reach an agreement, lack of supplies, etc..), But what is certain is that had it not made that decision, the sign and the result of the war could have been very different.

As always, all these historical passages are accompanied by personal and compelling stories today, searching the net for the exact figures of the retreat, I encountered two testimonies which I reply here as I found:

Among the soldiers who then fled from Dunkerque, Romeo Jenkins. A sly old man who turns 91 years in September and recalls his last hours on the beach in the city. "I remember being rendered" says staring, "we had several days without food and fell asleep. Then I woke up and all my mates had gone. I smoked a cigarette and waited on the beach that Germans come after me. Suddenly I heard a voice shouting from a boat, 'Come here. This is your last chance! ". And there I was" .
so lucky as he was Dennis William Black, a rifleman who arrived late to get on a minesweeper and had to board a boat piloted by a drunken sailor. Upon arriving at Ramsgate learned that a German bomb had sunk the ship that had not been mounted. He had survived thanks to a fluke.

Can I Buy Alcohol With A Temporary Id

Skynet Top Soccer

In my case, it started about 15 years ago with a kind of program that allowed you to connect to a kind of forum, through a kind of modem that pervaded the telephone line. I remember the program, or forums, or whatever all that, it was called Top Soccer . And I remember there was a section to talk or leave messages on each computer, where I used to enter the Athletic and angered me to read how many put to give birth to Luis Fernandez. There would be more messages, more players, and people praised or criticized. But I remember from those of Luis Fernandez. Everything was Top Soccer, and everything was for my Internet startup. Today

hardly know or do if I did not have Internet, but at that time still was getting everything. So much so, that even then there were no webs, or for both browsers (or at least had not yet reached me.) That came later. Those sites such archaic and superestáticas, and those browsers where you had to type up the "http://" or not you happy going to the web. These, gradually, and the normal evolution of technology, computers and networking, then ended up drifting in a more dynamic web, where user interaction became the most important factor. It was and is, the Web 2.0 , this technological age in which even we find ourselves and that its main protagonists are blogs, forums and social networks.

And now, when many people are still climbing on this car, we say that time is on the verge of extinction and little by little we are already putting their feet on what could be considered Web 3.0. But what is that? What we still have to move? For what it means is that since many users are beginning to dispense with traditional Web browsing, and therefore away from using the browser. Chrome, Explorer, Mozilla, are already being pre-retirees. The new form of interaction with the network is falling increasingly on the famous "Apps" mobile phone (or rather smartphones), the tablets, or even the PC is becoming increasingly numerous people not open the browser to check the weather on the web, but pulling your application "Weather" more and more users who do not connect to facebook.com but access to that network through the "app" its iPad official, and there are more users who choose to check email through the "application" Gmail for your Android or iPhone. This is explained by a mere amateur, it is more or less the Web 3.0.

But also, this should be added the dramatic increase of the phenomenon of "cloud" and cloud computing . Gradually, thanks to advances in the speed of network connection, it spreads out the storage and / or access to any data (music, files, documents, contacts ...) on the servers of companies vendors without having them stored on the hard drive of your PC or device. In my case I have my contacts in Gmail, my events and appointments on Google Calendar, keep certain documents and files in Dropbox, I write lots of notes (mostly for the blog) in Evernote, and listen to music exclusively via Spotify. With the advantage that all I can access anywhere you have a data connection, either from my phone, my home PC, laptop or even work iPad. Many feel, partly why some vertigo or fear of this new "lifestyle" and even recently I heard an expert witness against this storage in the cloud

"The use of Cloud computing is worse than stupidity "
Richard Stallman (of the mainsprings of the free software movement)
Source: Technology Blog " The Guardian "

not know if it concerned a claim or is rather due to my ignorance, but personally I do not agree with that statement. I think it would be like saying that it is better not to put money in banks because we lose the real control over it, or because if we were bankrupt without it. Something, obviously, nobody today would understand. I think that all this progress is unstoppable: phones, the e-book The tablets, Web 3.0, 4 5 6 7 and 8.0, the cloud and cloud computing, and then advances in nanotechnology, circuits and subcutaneous implants, and later the servo human spacecraft , interstellar travel, and perhaps intelligent androids to conquer other worlds.

I like, and I am a big fan of all this, but hell, I also recognize that I start to think and gives me a little scared, or rather dizzy. The other day I read an article Punset for the magazine "Very Interesting" , which featured Ray Kurzweil , a researcher and scientist specializing in artificial intelligence and technology, and had come to make statements like:

"In the decade of 2030, you can download our brains, our mental software, any support and backing"

"In the future computers will act in a way very similar to ours, including emotional intelligence will be fun, you will understand the jokes ... we merged with that intellect. I will introduce into our bodies and brains, to be healthier and live longer. "
Source: Man of the future - Eduardo Punset (Very Interesting)

not tell that scares me a bit! Because who knows, and I speak not in jest, if not we get out of hand, like so many other things, and within 200 or 1000 years did not see a Skynet * want out of the way human beings . I do not know ... well, so much so and we will not see, so for now enjoy the good side of technology, that is, a lot.

* Note for non-geeks: Skynet is evil system that rebels against human Terminator.

Strongest Prescription Of Vicdid

Danzig and the Polish Corridor

The current Polish city of Gdansk , by its present characteristics, could pass for being the Bilbao of Poland. It has a population of about 460,000 inhabitants (a number somewhat higher, but similar to Bilbao). It is considered the sixth largest city in the country. It is located in the north of it, enjoying sea coast and is the main port area of Poland. However, although many seem to Bilbao say that enough is enough, are not these similarities that characterize most Gdansk but the historical importance it enjoyed in the early to mid-twentieth century.
Gdansk
And it translates into German as Danzig , and until the First World War was a city that belonged to Germany. In 1920, with the end of the "Great War" and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles , and in order that Poland had an outlet to the sea (specifically the Baltic), there were two important measures. On the one hand to stop Danzig belong to Germany and should become an autonomous city (under the aegis of the newly created League of Nations) in which Poland would have certain customs and economic privileges. On the other hand, not least, we established what was called "Polish corridor" , which was removed to Germany a strip of Polish territory to give land access to the area of Danzig and therefore the sea. Thus Germany was divided into two, with separate eastern mainland by the "Polish Corridor."

Free City of Danzig and the Polish Corridor which separated Germany into two

The situation of the autonomous city and the corridor was kept on for years, until April 1939, the dawn of World War II and Nazism reaching its peak, Hitler demanded the return to Germany on Danzig's sovereignty under the pretext that the majority of its population was of Germanic origin. Also also demanded the construction of a railway and a road crossing the Polish corridor and connect the two regions of Germany. Both initiatives were rejected with the resulting anger of the Fuehrer, who would not wait long for revenge. And is that the first target attacked Nazi forces invaded Poland, and which ultimately led to the outbreak of World War II, the peninsula was Westerplatte Danzig at the hands of the German battleship Schleswig-Holstein . The city was devastated and thousands of its inhabitants died.

Years later, after the war ended with the defeat Germanic in Potsdam Conference decided that the city of Danzig (now Gdansk again), and part of eastern Germany, finally became part of Poland, forming the final figure we now know of that country.

Contest Winners Euskalblogs Reyes

I always thought that talking about yourself in third person denoted some egotistical or narcissistic character. And beyond that, if instead of the third person, uses the first person plural, it already shows an extra-corporeal megalomania possible psychological treatment. In this case I think not and I will use:

We Euskalblogs Contest Winners!

Gifts

Well that's it. First full working week after this period of holidays and Christmas holidays. It's getting hard. Total return to reality. Gone are the Christmas and New Year dinners, meals Christmas and New Year, and gifts on Twelfth Night. As for these, and like every year, have fallen another book, which coupled with the use of "Bono Culture Basque Government and my birthday a few days before, has made this holiday I have gathered with :

The seventy major cities in the history - JJNorwich
Brief History of all things - Ken Wilber
The art of being happy - Schopenhauer
cultures failed - José Antonio Marina
The Art of War - Sun Tzu
Superheroes and philosophy - Various Authors
Sin City (full edition) - Frank Miller
red Orm - FGBengtsson.

As you see, a lot of trial, a novel and a comic. And I will comment here as you go reading, to be sure that Schopenhauer, Marina and company give us good chicha for the blog. Indeed, as not all receive, my grandmother gave "With the heart of the hand " Chris Cleave, which is gradually placing among the best sellers and it seems to be a good melodrama.

Antibiotics Cure Stds

Skeptics respond

The truth is that I see very little television in general. Even less normal programming of the different networks, as virtually'm just shows and movies I have in the computer, so my opinion probably is not entirely fair. Anyway, setting aside some series, my impression (perhaps superficial, subjective and possibly insurance lacking sufficient experience) is that the regular programming on television is generally crap. Very lack of originality, lack of ingenuity very, very lack of good taste and very lack of an informative nature.

Fortunately, programs like Networks (which incidentally I see podcast instead of television) or Page2 (which I have no idea if it continues on the grid) are excellent exceptions to each of the previous four "faults." For this, they recently joined the program ETB2 "Skeptics" . I read about its release in Microsiervos , pleasantly caught my attention, and thankfully the new year Saturday I ran into him and I trinquer integer. For you have not heard of it, say it is a program on scientific issues, but with an approach and language for the general public. From what I saw in the first program seems to attempt to spark critical thinking and scientific and debunk through scientific experimentation and certain urban legends "Conspiranoia" sadly settled in society.

In this first object of the program was so popular-now- denial of the man on the moon and the theory that everything was a set of NASA-CIA-US-HOLLYWOOD to win Russians in the space race. The presenter (Luis Alfonso Gámez) and his collaborators were dismantled one by one, and thanks to the logic, physics and general science, all the alleged "evidence" that Arsmtrong never left its mark on the satellite of our planet.

I found a program quite dynamic, highly original and highly informative. Very well led by presenters and scientifically strict enough to the objective pursued. This on the moon must be the pilot program and believe it has been well received by audiences, so I hope that "skeptics" will be a long future ahead, but last Saturday I have not found in the ETB progamación ... In any case I recommend you should do with the first delivery and also that, to continue issuing, you see the following in the regional chain.

Drywall And Gluten Intolerance

The regulars on Comics (II)

Toni:

What is your favorite cartoon character and why?

Batman. It has no powers and is among the most respected. Its darkness which makes it more human. Their values are the ones I like: the system does not work, someone has to fight for the rest catching up trash. Coolness the rest gives a very authentic touch of cockiness.

Any special child that you love?

Wolverine and Hulk. The two spend the rules and are the hardest. I like Wolverine for his comments because it is often humorous and endure many blows before winning. Hulk I like it for its incomparable strength and because there is always someone who thinks they are stronger than him, but never are.

Vicu:

What is your favorite cartoon character and why?

'm mulling over the questions and I find an answer that convinces me ... I do not know ... a priori favorite character would you Batman, but lately I'm getting tired of it ... and the same happens with Wolverine (eye, which I read last week's "Old Man Logan" and I liked it hey, but I always seem to like comic book ...). I'm hooked on lately is the Living Dead, and its main character is the fucking master! yes, no more than an ordinary sheriff ... I'm thinking that a character is to cojonudo Nexus, a superhero who goes by the planets overthrowing tyrants and giving her justice. I like it because it does not beat with half measures, come to where the bad and the brush, to take the ass!

So ... if you want a rare superhero I'll stick with Nexus. For one I like for the whole story as it evolves: Rick Grimes (the Dead). For someone known surely Batman, by the great stories we have left. Although I like Hellboy ...

Any special child that you love?

As a secondary ... I think in that I prefer Iron Fist. Which has its own collection but is not well known, I really like it. Karateka is a kind of mystic, what I read I liked. Daredevil is a kind of fall to you all and the end, as all good, just winning ... Host! I remembered Rorschach! this really is the fucking master, I stay with him for the great story, and phrases that give the balls check it!

Morfeo:

What is your favorite cartoon character and why?

My short experience in the comics is no more than 3 or 4 years and I have only had opportunity to read Marvel comics (perhaps because of small saw Spiderman cartoon series on Antena 3), without But if I could go quite a regular series in which various characters appear, namely: Thor, Captain America, Spiderman, Wolverine, Hulk, Ironman, Fantastic 4, Ms. Marvel, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, etc. Among all these stories the truth is that my favorite cartoon character was hopping from one to another according to the stories of the comics but if I have to stay with one I would definitely stay with Ironman. And there are many reasons ... For material reasons (I suppose the least, although I'm not sure lol): Uncle is a millionaire, has all kinds of luxury cars, mansions, has to a skyscraper in the middle of New York and if last but not least also the bastard is handsome and every woman is shot which catches the eye! And now for more personal reasons: Tony Stark was a man who became a superhero thanks to his wit and intelligence (not without some help from a colleague, it is true), I like the idea of the hero made himself. It is one of the 5 smartest people on Earth, is one of the founders of the Original Avengers, and indeed his patron for a long time. I also like the idea that such an intelligent man can see corrupted by alcohol, which shows once again that not everything in life is money and the material world.

Any child who have special affection? As secondary

I can not mention Slaughter, because I think one of the most charismatic of all Marvel. It is the typical antihero that everyone hates. The guy is crazy, his face is deformed, has the same healing factor than Wolverine, using pistols and two swords and also blowing off jokes and bullshit! Do not know what else you could ask a person for a laugh with him.

A330 Fuji Mechanical Drawing

The regulars respond on Comics (I)

Who has not dreamed of flying like Superman, drive the Batmobile, stretch like Reed Richards (Mr.Fantástico) or seeing a fight between Hulk and The Thing? What are the favorite of Circulodeaficioneros?

Ricky:

What is your favorite cartoon character and why?

Although the question is perhaps most insignificant of all, is surely the one that has cost me more concrete. Since childhood my favorite superhero Superman has always been, is what you have grown up with movies starring Christopher Reeve, and now the character of those who read more comics is Wolverine calculation. On the other hand, I love the dark and the fascist side of Batman, he does what he thinks he has to do, period, without mercy, without the police or the state, decides and executes. But there is a character that wakes me they do not get some sympathy others: Captain America . I guess in part for his uniform and shield, and partly by the force that gives the super-soldier serum, but certainly what I like about him is the strong leadership he has and his relentless defense freedom. Like that, despite their patriotic ideals, is able to set aside his country in favor of the defense of freedom and the values we believe.

Any special child that you love?

I'll take Rorschach in Watchmen. Like Batman, has a dark side and tyrannical seduce me, and like Captain America, maintains the values he believes in until the end. His fight against political correctness and its marginal compared to their mates just love it.

Rumaila:

What is your favorite cartoon character and why? Any side who have special affection?

Difficult questions that pose ... Actually, I've been thinking and I think I will not be able to answer. For the record, I do not want to nor deep nor pedantic but I'll take the opportunity you give us to pay a modest tribute to the comic. And there are many characters that I have posed good times and many years of reading comics. From Zipi and Zape up Tin Tin, through Mortadelo and Philemon, Super López , Asterix and Obelix , superheroes - many of Marvel and DC a few ...

... by that I mean that it is very difficult if not impossible, to stay with you. Sunday afternoons and rainy cold with nothing more to do than read comics, I remember with great affection loooong. Like the days in bed from a blessed flu or waiting at the doctor's office ... Do not exaggerate, comics have always been there, staying with me. So do not be surprised to talk to them and their authors with special affection and I will be very hard to stay with one ...

Yes it is true that the more I followed it far more comics and I have accumulated over the years is Spiderman and, of course, I have a special affection. Do not think that I've asked myself why I like so much this character. Actually, I think it just happened that we are at the right time ... other flu. You are in bed with nothing to do than spend time reading comics and listening to the radio (another thing I like most in this world I discovered thanks to the flu) and suddenly falls into your hands one of Spiderman that for some strange reason you love ... Just so you know, the first Spiderman comic I read was "Spider-Man and Dracula. Vol 2. Vertice No. 30. Superheroes written by Len Wein and drawn by Ross Andru. The number of vertices, in black and white (ohhhhh. ...) picked up the material of the Giant Size Spiderman # 1.
